Match Review - Allenton United 2 - Shielton Athletic 1

Allenton United secured their first win of the season with a result that will send shock waves through the UCFL Division 3A.

High flying Shielton Athletic must have arrived to Johnstown Park confident of comfortably securing all three points but found an Allenton team in no mood to roll over.

Allenton had the best of the first half and deservedly went into the lead with a great finish from Thomas Hogan. Shielton were restricted to a handful of half chances but it still took a wonder headed clearance from Billy to maintain Allenton's lead into half time.

Shielton must have got a roasting from their gaffer as they came out all guns blazing in the second half, pinning Allenton United back in their own half for lengthy spells. Allenton held out until a deflected free kick found the top corner to bring the teams level.

It was at this point that a new Allenton United emerged. Instead of losing heads and gifting goals Allenton simply ran themselves into the ground to keep the scores level in the face of continued Shielton pressure. The back four lead by Jonathan Redmond and the impressive return of Rob Dwyer coupled with the harassing skills of Billy threw back everything Shielton threw at them.

Goalkeeper Steve had his best match in an Allenton shirt pulling off a number of great saves and collecting many a dangerous corner.

There are too many heroes to mention but Lee put in a great shift on the right of midfield with Andre committed as ever.

Controversy arrived with a double sending off as Mick and a Shielton forward where giving their marching orders for raising their hands.

Allenton coped better and where looking good for the draw when with 3 minutes left on the clock it happened. A slice of (hard earned) luck!

A through ball drew the Shielton goalkeeper to challenge feet first with the referee pointing straight to the spot. Andre tucked it away and despite the seconds ticking away in what seemed like slow motion the final whistle blew and Allenton had won. A win that was thoroughly deserved for sheer graft alone.
